Kristen Schaal Joins Cast Of Captain Underpants Movie

Kristen Schaal is the latest addition to the talented voice cast of DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming comedy feature Captain Underpants

According to Entertainment Weekly, "Schaal will play lunch lady Edith, the culinary colleague and primary love interest of Mr. Krupp," a.k.a. Captain Underpants.

Schaal is well known for her voice work in animated television shows and feature films, voicing Louise Belcher on Bob's Burgers, Mabel Pines on Gravity Falls, and Trixie from the Toy Story franchise. In live-action, Schaal is most recognizable for playing Mel on Flight of the Conchords and Carol on The Last Man on Earth.

Captain Underpants is based on Dav Pilkey's popular book series and centers around two scheming fourth graders, George Beard (Kevin Hart) and Harold Hutchins (Thomas Middleditch) whose personal missions are to play pranks, hide in their secret treehouse and write comic books. But when they accidentally bring their favorite comic book character, Captain Underpants, to life through a hypnosis accident involving their megalomaniacal principal Mr. Krupp (Ed Helms), their elementary school life becomes anything but elementary. Rounding out the cast will be Jordan Peele who will voice Melvin, the nerdy nemesis of George and Harold, and Nick Kroll as the insidious villain, Professor Poopypants.

Turbo director, David Soren, is helming the film, based on a script by Nick Stoller (The Muppets).

Captain Underpants will be released on June 2, 2017.
