Kung Fu Panda 3 easily led the on Friday with $10.5M at the North American box office. The DreamWorks Animation sequel is now on pace for $40M-$41M weekend, which is slightly behind Kung Fu Panda 2's $47.7M opening weekend. Kung Fu Panda 3 should benefit from good-word-of-mouth as audiences gave it an 'A' CinemaScore and according to PostTrak 72% of the audience would recommend it.

In its seventh week, Star Wars: The Force Awakens edged closer to $900M domestic total. It took in $2.5M on Friday and is headed for a fourth place finish for the weekend with $9.9M. It'll finish Sunday with a total of $894.4M.

Meanwhile, The Revenant nabbed second on Friday with $3.2M, The Finest Hours grabbed third with $3.3M, Ride Along 2 and The Boy tied for fifth with $2.3M, Dirty Grandpa and Fifty Shades of Black tied for sixth with $2.2M, The 5th Wave locked in seventh with $1.9M and 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi clung to eighth with $1.7M.
