Jor-El and General Zod do the old Xavier/Magneto dance in the newest clip from Man of Steel, putting on display the notion that their relationship wasn't always adversarial, and that much of the conflict between the two, at least on a personal level, comes from Jor-El's disappoitnment in what Zod has become. So...what has he become? Mild spoilers here--it's all about "impure bloodlines." Zod is the kind of dictator for whom ethnic cleansing is apparently part of his repertoire, and when we join him, he's hanging out with the Kryptonian High Council, roughing them up and making accusations. It's interesting to see the elements that have changed versus those which have remained the same on Krypton in Man of Steel and Richard Donner's Superman. Between this scene and some of Jor-El's other stuff, there's a fair amount that's carried over, and some of it is stuff I don't remember as being essential to his characterization in the comics. The clip aired when Russell Crowe appeared on The Tonight Show; we'll update later with the full clip including interview once it's online.
