Mighty Avengers #1 variant

Luke Cage will lead She-Hulk, the Superior Spider-Man and a number of less high-profile heroes in Mighty Avengers, coming in September from writer Al Ewing and artist Greg Land. As is the Marvel NOW! custom, it's likely the title will shift from Land to other artists arc-to-arc, with Ewing staying aboard for the longer haul. They're joined by Ronin and Monica Rambeau, formerly known as Captain Marvel/Photon/Pulsar, neither of whom were previously announced in the handful of press releases this week which identified Power Man, White Tiger, Blue Marvel and the other high-profile members named above. "That will be the core cast that makes up this book," said Marvel SVP of Publishing and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort. "Really the course of our first number of issues will show our cast coming together." Spinning out of the events of Infinity, the team forms when the world is under attack by the forces of Thanos and The Avengers are in space dealing with another threat. "She's got a new costume and a new name, but she's kind of rejoining the superhero set in terms of rebranding herself," Ewing said of Rambeau. "She's basically coming back as Spectrum, which we batted around possible names, and you could tell that one had a kind of hard science-fiction feel to it. One of the things I love about Monica is that she was once the leader of the team, and it's great to have her in that position again." Ewing most recently wrote an Age of Ultron tie-in for Avengers Assemble, replacing regular series writer Kelly Sue DeConnick on the title for a couple of months while she worked on The Enemy Within, an Avengers Assemble/Captain Marvel mini-event.
