Allons-y! This December, a brand-new Doctor Who episode will debut when the show’s annual Christmas special. “The Return of Doctor Mysterio” promises to bring classic Whovian fun to fans along with thrilling superhero action. The episode will follow the Twelfth Doctor as he and an investigative journalist work with a mysterious superhero to save New York City. The show will debut on December 25, but diehard Doctor Who fans can watch the episode on the big screen if they’d like. Fathom Events is teaming up with BBC to screen the Christmas special in select theaters.
So far, the Doctor Who special is set to air in more than 400 theaters across the US. Tickets will go on sale starting Friday, November 18. The limited screening will take place on December 27 and 29 starting at 7:00 p.m. local time.
“Doctor Who fans are one of our most dedicated audiences, and we expect they will show up in full force for this holiday special,” said Fathom Events Vice President of Programming Kymberli Frueh. “There’s no better way to enjoy this content than on the big screen and among fellow fans.”
When the screenings air, fans will get to watch the 60-minute special along with two bonus features. The first special is titled “A New Kind of Superhero” and gives fans an inside look at Doctor Who’s modern superhero. The second is the special’s “Doctor Who Extra” footage which goes behind-the-scenes on making the episode.
If you want to check out the synopsis for “The Return of Doctor Mysterio,” you can read it below:
“Join the Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi, as he teams up with an investigative journalist, played by Charity Wakefield (Wolf Hall, The Player), and a superhero to save New York from a deadly alien threat. Written by Steven Moffat, the special stars Justin Chatwin (Orphan Black, Shameless) as Grant, along with Matt Lucas (Alice in Wonderland, Bridesmaids), Adetomiwa Edun (Lucifer, Bates Motel), Aleksandar Jovanovic and Logan Hoffman.”
Earlier this year, the BBC released their first look at the mysterious superhero who’d feature in the Christmas special. Canadian actor Justin Chatwin will play the character, and his get-up looks rather impressive. His all-black uniform and face mask look nothing like the Doctor’s whimsical ensemble, but the two heroes will surely find some similarities once they get to know one another.0comments
