If you are not pumped about the future of Dragon Ball Super, it’s about time you got acquainted with the feeling. Earlier today, Shueisha’s V Jump magazine confirmed the anime would enter a new saga in spring 2017. And, now, the show’s official website has gifted fans with a synopsis and key visual from the “Universal Survival” saga.
You can check out the brief synopsis below:
“At Goku’s request, the Omni-Kings’ “Tournament of Power” martial arts tournament between universes now begins! …But this also proves to be the beginning of universal destruction. What awaits the victors of this tournament, and the vanquished…?! How will these intense team battles between the elites of each universe turn out…?!”
The key visual released for the “Universal Survival” saga also shows a slew of familiar characters. Both Omni-Kings came be seen along with the Great Priest and Universe 7’s warriors. The powerful team houses fighters like Goku, Kuririn, Androids 17 & 18, Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, Piccolo, and more.
The Dragon Ball Super website also contains a short message from producer Shunki Hashizume. “Dragon Ball Super enters its new chapter, the “Universe Survival Arc”. As you can see from the main visual, it’ll be a full-throttle story where Goku and the rest of the Universe 7 warriors form a team to take on a tournament between universes!” he wrote.
“Artificial Human No. 17 and Majin Boo are there too, so personally I can’t contain my excitement at the thought of what kind of fights we’ll see! Look forward to this new chapter that’ll be sure to feature super-intense battles with nonstop appearances by the elites of each universe!”
If you’re concerned about the saga’s direction, then you can breathe a sigh of relief. Creator Akira Toriyama personally provided drafts of the “Universal Survival” saga to the show’s animators, and more details about the upcoming storyline are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
As for its start date, the new sage is slated to premiere on February 5, 2017. The “Universal Survival” saga will be part of the recent simulcast agreement that sites like Crunchyroll and Funimation have scored.
Shortly before the new Dragon Ball Super storyline kicks off, Toonami will be bringing the series to cable television. The program recently announced it would be bringing the English dub of the show to cable on January 7.
“Dragon Ball Super is more than the latest adventure in the Dragon Ball saga – It’s a collaboration between the series original creator, Akira Toriyama and a passionate team of men and women who are both longtime partners and talented newcomers. “Dragon Ball Super” comes with everything viewers can hope for after waiting 18 long years for a new series – impressible dangers to overcome, the reuniting of beloved characters, and new additions to the mythos that will rock Dragon Ball’s very foundation,” said Masayuki Endo, President and CEO of Toei Animation Inc. in a state, emt “We are very excited to return “Dragon Ball Super” to its U.S. broadcast home on Adult Swim.”
