New Gremlins Movie Compared To Jurassic World; Zach Galligan May Appear In It

Today, Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square hosted a Gremlins event in which the classic 1984 horror-comedy was screened and Zach Galligan, who starred as Billy Peltzer, was on hand. During the question and answer portion of the event, Galligan shared some new details about the upcoming Gremlins movie.

"It's not going to be a reboot," Galligan told the crowd. "It will not be a remake in any way, shape, or form. Chris Columbus has come out and said that the first film is very near and dear to his heart and as long as he is alive it will never be remade. So the only thing they will be, and apparently are going to be doing, is something along the lines of like Jurassic World, where it will be 30 years later. All of the elements from the first, at least the first Gremlins movie -- Chris Columbus didn't really have much to do with the second Gremlins movie so I don't know how he feels about that -- but all of the things and events that happened in the first one will be referred to. And apparently some of the characters from the first one will reappear in the new one they are planning right now. I swear on my life, I don't know if I'm in it or not, but I think there is probably a decent chance since I'm one of the few people left standing from the first movie."

Fingers crossed they can get Phoebe Cates (she played Billy's love interest Kate Beringer) out of her 14-year retirement.

The new Gremlins film is currently being written by screenwriter Carl Ellsworth, who previously wrote the screenplays for the Goosebumps movie, Disturbia, and the remakes of The Last House on the Left and Red Dawn. Columbus will co-produce the remake with Steven Spielberg.

Gremlins (1984) - Horror and humor combine seamlessly in this monstrous box-office hit from Academy Award, Emmy and Golden Globe-winner Steven Spielberg ("Munich," "War of the Worlds") and director Joe Dante ("Innerspace," "Twilight Zone: The Movie"). A small town is besieged by some furry and not-so-cute little creatures after a young man ignores the warnings of a wise elder regarding their care and feeding.
