Pacific Rim Review

While there's been no official announcement in regards to a Pacific Rim sequel yet, things are definitely looking up as Pacific Rim's early box office seems to be defying early tracking which had indicated the film would not do well. Buzz has already started to change from Pacific Rim being a mega-flop to it actually being a big success for a non-sequel original movie. If the Pacific Rim box office stays strong over the weekend, it could go a long way toward the possibility of a sequel. With Legendary Pictures splitting with Warner Bros., they will no longer be involved in the DC Comics franchises, so Pacific Rim could be an opportunity for them to build one of their own franchises. In fact, a Pacific Rim sequel is actually currently in what could be classified as the idea stage, as director Guillermo Del Toro recently shared his ideas for Pacific Rim 2 with MTV. Warning: Guillermo del Toro's ideas contain some spoilers and will probably make more sense after you've seen Pacific Rim. Guillermo del Toro said, "We know what we're doing on the sequel right now. I'll tell you a couple of things. We will have Gipsy 2.0 for sure. We will have Gipsy 2.0 for sure. Second thing is you're gonna see a merging of Kaiju and Jaeger. And that is quite special." Guillermo del Toro added, "Just think about it for a second. We sent Gipsy to the other side, right? It exploded, but whatever remains stays there. We've drifted with a Kaiju brain. Well, then start riffing on that and you'll get to something."
