Pokemon fans worried about the dreaded in app purchases in Pokemon GO can rest a little easier. Niantic Labs, the maker of the hotly anticipated "augmented reality" mobile app, pushed a new update to beta tests currently underway in Japan and Australia. Included in the update was a "Store" that allows players to purchase item upgrades and boosts to use in-game. While some feared players would have to purchase premium items like Ultra Balls or Potions via in app purchase, all the items listed so far relate more towards upgrading storage, providing temporary boosts or decreasing wait time. For instance, beta testers from the Silph Road, a Reddit page dedicated to Pokemon GO, hypothesize that an Incense item would attract additional Pokemon when used.

All items from the store can be purchased using PokeCoins, which can either be purchased using real world currency or collected in game. For instance, players will receive PokeCoins for logging into Pokemon GO daily. Beta testers also noted that Pokemon GO's coding also indicated that specific items could also be purchased for real world money, although that feature has actually been shown in game.

The new update also confirmed that Niantic was still working on the Pokemon GO+, a small device that would allow players to interact with Pokemon GO even when the app wasn't open on the phone. The small lapel-like device will allow players to detect and catch wild Pokemon as well as receive items from PokeStops spread throughout the city.

The other major update in Pokemon GO relates to battling. We previously reported that Pokemon GO will have a two attack system, featuring both quick and charge attacks. The new update added stamina bars to the battle feature, which prevents players from only using one sort of attack. Stronger Pokemon can use the more powerful "charge attacks" more times consecutively than weaker Pokemon, giving them an additional edge in battle.

While Niantic and the Pokemon Company have yet to announce a release date for Pokemon GO, a job listing on Niantic Labs seemingly confirmed a summer launch date. The posting is for a short term marketing position needed between the months of June through September. The position mentions that the position will only be needed "through launch", which seemingly implies it's related to Pokemon GO. Of course, Niantic also runs the popular mobile app Ingress, so it's certainly possible the listing relates to a major update to that game instead.
