In 1998, All Nippon Airways, the largest airline in Japan, unveiled the first of a series of jets decorated with Pokemon on its exterior. After nearly 18 years of service and 10 different jets, All Nippon announced that they had "retired" its last Pokemon Jet by repainting the jet and updating its interior.

All Nippon's Pokemon Jets offered a complete "Pokemania" experience while flying on the Pokemon jets, as the interior was also furnished with Pokemon gear. Passengers received Pokemon themed souvenir bags, ate out of Pokemon food containers and enjoyed different types of Pokemon-themed in flight entertainment. Even the flight attendants wore special Pokemon-themed uniforms, featuring Pikachu and other popular characters on its garb. Pokemon fans could even pick which characters appeared on the exterior of the planes, via occasional fan votes organized by All Nippon. All Nippon reported a noticeable bump in passengers after unveiling the Pokemon Jet line.

All Nippon's last "new" Pokemon Jet was unveiled back in 2011, featuring Pokemon from Pokemon Black and Pokemon White. The company began scaling back on their Pokemon Jet line in 2013, when it replaced many of their Boeing 747s with newer crafts. Its final Pokemon Jet was repainted during maintenance and rotated out of daily use due to poor fuel consumption.

While this is the first time in 18 years that a Pokemon Jet won't be soaring through the skies, All Nippon isn't necessarily getting rid of the line all together. The company is reportedly planning a new Pokemon Jet, which may correlate to the release of Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon later this year.
