An old Pokemon favorite is returning to the Wii U. Pokemon Snap will be available to purchase on the Wii U Virtual Console, beginning in Japan next week. Pokemon Snap was originally an Nintendo 64 game released in 1999, in which players traveled throughout "Pokemon Island" and took pictures of various Pokemon to help Professor Oak with his research. Players were scored on how many Pokemon's pictures they took as well as the quality of the photos themselves. While only 63 Pokemon appeared in the game, Pokemon Snap was the first Pokemon game to depict Pokemon in 3D. Originally, fans could turn pictures they took from Pokemon Snap into stickers by visiting a local Blockbuster store. Because of the unique gameplay and the ability to see Pokemon in their natural habitat, Pokemon Snap became a fan favorite and still is fondly remembered among Pokemon fans.

Nintendo previously released Pokemon Snap for the Wii in 2007. Although no "sticker" option was available, players could upload pictures onto the Wii message board and share them with friends. It's presumed that the Wii U version will have a similar features. It's unclear if Nintendo plans to add any additional console Pokemon games, such as Pokemon Stadium or Pokemon Colosseum, as part of Pokemon's ongoing 20th anniversary celebration.

Pokemon Snap will cost $10 to purchase on the Wii U Virtual Console. No other information is available at this time, but stay tuned to ComicBook.com
