Pokemon Sun and Moon is getting a manga. The Pokemon Company announced that a new manga series based on the upcoming Nintendo 3DS game will start in the September issue of CoroCoro, a Japanese manga magazine. The manga will focus on a new trainer named Akira and his Rockruff during their travels through the Alola region.

No other details were announced, but the Pokemon Company promised more details later this week.

It's likely that this new manga is related to Pokemon Adventures, a popular series that began way back in 1997. Pokemon Adventures stars the protagonists of the various games (with names like Red, Ruby, or Black) exploring different regions and battling different teams of villains. Satoshi Tajiri, the creator of the Pokemon franchise, has said that Pokemon Adventures is the closest adaptation to the world he imagined when he first envisioned the Pokemon franchise. Pokemon Adventures is written by Hidenori Kusaka and illustrated by Satoshi Yamamoto.

Pokemon Adventures has a following in the United States, but don't expect to see the new manga on shelves in the United States this fall. The English translation runs about 18 months behind the Japanese volumes, and Viz Media still needs to publish the English version of Omega Ruby Alpha Sapphire before it can publish Sun and Moon.
