The popular 3DS game Pokemon Rumble World comes out today in retail stores. Rumble World is a continuation of the Pokemon Rumble series of spinoff games, in which players collect and battle Pokemon toys. A "freemium" version of the game came out in 2015 on the 3DS Virtual Console, which quickly became one of Nintendo's top-selling digital titles.

So why buy a hard copy of Pokemon Rumble World when you can get a digital copy for free? Well, the freemium version requires players to slowly accumulate (or purchase) PokeDiamonds to advance through the game. Although you can get away with collecting diamonds via leveling up at first, players will eventually hit a wall when their progress outpaces the amount of diamonds they can collect in a day. The retail version of Pokemon Rumble World comes with 3,000 PokeDiamonds, the maximum amount of diamonds you can buy in the freemium version of the game, which would allow players to unlock every level of the game.

Pokemon Rumble World is basically a button masher, but the collecting aspect of the game should appeal to many Pokemon fans. Having played the freemium version of the game last summer, I can say that I sunk way too many hours replaying levels trying to snag a Legendary Pokemon toy or an otherwise rare Pokemon.

The retail version of Pokemon Rumble World is on sale today for $29.99.
