With Star Wars Episode VII on the horizon, buzz around the movie is about to hit fever pitch status. So why not get into the mood with the Sideshow Collectibles  Sixth Scale R2-D2 Deluxe figure. Our friends at Sideshow Collectibles sent us the figure so we can open it up and share it with all of you.

You can watch the us bust R2-D2 out of his box in the video below:

Packaging: R2-D2 comes in a slick black package which on the back you can see the figure with some of the accessories attached alongside the included Princess Leia hologram. The front side opens up to provide a good view of R2 and all of his accessories, ranging from a magnetic light saber, his drink tray, and his jig saw.

Aesthetics: The figure is wonderfully detailed as you would expect from any Sideshow figure. No detail is left behind. The front side is complete with vent grooves, outlined compartments you can open with the magnetic lightsaber, and more. The feet have very realistic looking cables running from them and a third leg that is spring loaded from the bottom of the figure.

On the top of the figure, there are several additional compartments that are either spring loaded or slide open. There is a detailed computer grid and other lights that will light up with the touch of one of R2's top side panels. In order to activate this feature, you have to turn the very top while holding it's base, remove it from the figure, and flip a switch turning it on.

The drink tray can attach to the top of the legs. The figure even comes complete with an arm that can attach to the top of the figure and serve as a hand for the cups.

Posability: There is a surprising amount of poses you can leave the R2-D2 figure in. You can have him ready to serve, run, or attack. The number of compartments on the front and articulation of the legs and feet is definitely sufficient and satisfying. Match the poses with light animation and you have yourself a real, sixth scale, R2-D2 by your side.

Overall Value: At $149.99, the R2-D2 Deluxe figure costs less than most Sideshow figures, which is probably because it is smaller than most figures. It will fit snugly into your display, and when accompanied by the Leia hologram, will look very nice in the dark with it's lighting functionality.
