In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, cinema legend and Sundance Film Festival founder Robert Redford told the magazine that his reasons for joining Captain America: The Winter Soldier were, largely, technological in nature. That is, Redford has always been a nuts-and-bolts actor and filmmaker and the new trend of filming movies largely on green screen in order to make larger-than-life events come to life was attractive, even if it was just to see what it was like. "One of the reasons that I did it was I wanted to experience this new form of filmmaking that's taken over where you have kind of cartoon characters brought to life through high technology," Redford told EW. "The Avengers series is a product of high technology playing a major role in the new order of filmmaking so I wanted to experience that—I just wanted to know what that was like and I had that opportunity, so for me it was like stepping into new terrain just to experience what it was like."

What would be a real shock to his system is if he were to meet up with the rest of the cast at San Diego Comic Con International in July--but since his character is a villain and may not appear in sequels, it seems unlikely to happen. Captain America: the Winter Soldier stars Redford alongside Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Samuel L. Jackson and Anthony Mackie. It's due in theaters on April 4, and next week fans will get another look at the film in the form of a 30-second spot airing during the Super Bowl.
