According to source for The Hollywood Reporter, Rooney Mara ("The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo"), Felicity Jones ("The Amazing Spider-Man 2") and Tatiana Maslany ("Orphan Black") are all being considered for the female lead in Gareth Edwards' Star Wars standalone film.

Mara and Maslandy will be testing for the part. Mara is said to be testing as early as this week. It is a bit more cloudy with Jones because her busy schedule with Ron Howard's Inferno may prevent her from taking the role. She is currently on Edwards' "wantlist."

Last time we heard about this project screenwriter Gary Whitta ("After Earth") left it after he completed the first draft. There was a rumor that Simon Kinberg ("X-Men: Days Of Future Past") would take over writing duties but sources for The Hollywood Reporter say that is not the case. Edwards' is still seeking a new scribe to fine tune the script.

Gareth Edwards' Star Wars spinoff will land in theaters Dec. 16, 2016.
