Marvel and Netflix announced today that acclaimed actress Rosario Dawson has joined Marvel's Daredevil, a 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015.

Dawson will play an as-yet-unnamed character described as "a dedicated young woman whose quest to heal the wounds of Hell's Kitchen brings Matt Murdock unexpectedly crashing into her life, while her own journey forever alters the course of his battle against the injustices of this broken city."

Without the character name, it's impossible to say for sure, but the description could certainly describe Maya Lopez, better known as Echo or Ronin, a character introduced during David Mack's run on Daredevil who believed that Daredevil had killed her father (it was in fact Wilson Fisk, who raised her as his own when the dying man implored him to be sure she was safe).

This isn't Dawson's first foray into geek culture; besides Sin City and the upcoming Frank Miller's Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Dawson starred in Clerks 2 and will reportedly reprise that role in Clerks 3. She also appeared in Spike Lee's The 25th Hour, with The Incredible Hulk star Edward Norton, based on a novel by Game of Thrones showrunner David Benioff.

Dawson joins Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin in the cast of the series, which is set to enter production soon.

"Rosario Dawson is one the most charismatic, talented and powerful actresses in Hollywood, so she was always at the top of our list for Marvel's Daredevil," said Jeph Loeb, Marvel's Head of Television. "Her role in the series is absolutely critical to Matt Murdock's journey to become the hero we know as Daredevil."

Marvel's Daredevil follows the journey of Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the superhero Daredevil in modern day Hell's Kitchen, New York City.

Marvel's first original series on Netflix is Executive Produced by series Showrunner Steven S. DeKnight and Drew Goddard, along with Marvel TV's Jeph Loeb. The series is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.
