In a new magazine interview out this week, actor Samuel L. Jackson, who plays S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury in the Marvel Studios movies, reaffirmed earlier reports that while his character won't be appearing in the Tony Stark-centric Iron Man 3, he will be appearing in the spy thriller Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which starts shooting soon. "I think my next time as Nick Fury is in Captain America: The Winter Soldier," Jackson told Total Film, "because I'm not in Iron Man 3. None of the Avengers are in Iron Man 3. It's a standalone Iron Man movie." Many fans were actually glad to hear that Iron Man 3 won't have Hulk, Black Widow or Nick Fury floating around; it already seems jam-packed with half a dozen villains, an overarching plot that goes back to the first movie and more, as well as what appears to be a pretty serious character study of Tony Stark and his relationship with Pepper Potts. It's hard to imagine fitting much more than that into the new film without having it feel like overkill. Of course, many fans are hoping that Jackson will at least cameo in the TV pilot for Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D., which stars Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson - but it's hard to picture a star of his caliber taking a TV gig, and hard to imagine Marvel burning one of the movies on his contract to make it happen. Iron Man 3 hits theaters on May 3. Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be release on April 4, 2014.
