Many thought that Comic-Con International, considered by most to be THE comic book and pop culture event every year, would stay in San Diego forever. It's safe to say that the bustling California city thought the same thing, but other cities are now vying for the right to host the event. Los Angeles and Anaheim both have expressed more than passive interest in the event, which provides millions of dollars in economic stimulus to the San Diego economy each summer. In hopes to counter this effort, The Tourism Market District board agreed to a five-year, $500,000 deal that would attempt to keep Comic-Con in San Diego for at least the next few years. The $500,000 deal would provide hotel tax revenue to convention organizers, and the money would cover Comic-Cons for 2011 and 2012, the last two years of the current deal with the city of San Diego. The offer would be extended until 2015, if the convention organizers agree to keep the show in San Diego. The show, which attracts upwards of 130,000 attendees, is expected to make an announcement and decision on its future home within the next few weeks.
