Bryan Lee O'Malley, the cartoonist behind the Scott Pilgrim series, has announced his next project, Worst World. Set to be published by Ballantine Books, Worst World is the first of a planned trilogy of graphic novels, each of which will span over 300 pages. Little is known about the graphic novel's plot other than that it is set in modern day Los Angeles and follows a 30-something named Benny and a 20-something named Aubrey.

O'Malley is reassembling the art team who worked on his most recent graphic novel, Seconds, to create Worst World. That includes art assistant Jason Fischer and colorist Nathan Fairbairn, who also colored the hardcover color editions of Scott Pilgrim. You can see the first piece of promotional art above. O'Malley will be signing copies of the print this week at San Diego Comic-Con. More details can be found at his website.

This week also sees the release of Snot Girl #1, the first issue of the O'Malley-written Image Comics series. O'Malley is working on Snot Girl with artist Leslie Hung. The series follows Lottie Person, who is equal parts "gorgeous, fun-loving social media star" and "allergy-ridden mess."

O'Malley's first graphic novel, Lost at Sea, was published by Oni Press. He followed that with Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life, the first installment of the popular graphic novel series about a boy, Scott Pilgrim, who falls in love with a girl, Ramona Flowers, and must fight off her seven evil exes in order to date her. The series was adapted into a film, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, directed by Edgar Wright and starring Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
