Skyfall

, out on DVD, Blu-ray and available for download this week in the U.S., has become the second-highest-grossing movie released in 2012 after it surpassed The Dark Knight Rises on the global box office charts. The critically-acclaimed James Bond film has now taken The Dark Knight Rises's  spot as the seventh-highest grossing movie of all time with a total take of $1.094 billion. Given that Lord of the Rings: Return of the King stands above Skyfall on the all-time list, and The Avengers is the next target on the 2012 list, it's a virtual impossibility for Skyfall to move any higher up the list than this; it would have to generate at least another $100 million to do so. While it's still in theaters in some markets, movies simply don't generate that kind of revenue months after initial release, while widely available on home video in their native-language markets.
