Duncan Jones, director of Moon and Source Code, will direct the film adaptation of the popular video game franchise Warcraft, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni of Legendary Pictures are producing, with Blizzard and Atlas Entertainment's Charles Roven and Alex Gartner on board as well. Warcraft is a role-playing video game in which players attempt to build a society while being attacked by orcs. While generating revenue and improving your own community, your objective is to wipe out competing towns, the orcs and their allies. Later versions of the game have become much more elaborate, the most popular being the massive, multiplayer online game World of Warcraft, which blends elements of science fiction and fantasy and can see players taking on anything from aliens to knights. How much of that will make it into the movie is as yet unclear, as THR is reporting that Legendary is playing its script, written by Charles Leavitt, close to the vest. Warner Bros. intends to start shooting in the fall for a 2015 release. Depending on studio confidence in the film, Warcraft may become the studio's big summer tentpole movie that year if Justice League doesn't happen, or isn't on track to hit its target date. The studio recently revealed that they were waiting until the box office was in on Man of Steel before making any decisions about moving forward on the superhero team-up extravaganza. Other movies in the crowded 2015 release field include The Avengers 2, Star Wars Episode VII, The Pirates of the Caribbean 5, Fantastic Four, Ant-Man, Peanuts and the final installment of the Hunger Games series.
