Stan Lee cameo on Agents of SHIELD

In a sweeping set report that gives dozens of small, new details about the film, Collider reports that Stan Lee will have a cameo in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. As of this morning, Stan Lee said he had no idea about his prospective cameo in Joe and Anthony Russo's anticipated superhero sequel. Since the Collider set visit was over the summer, it's possible that plans fell through, and Lee's cameo didn't happen -- but in any event, the Russo Brothers definitely planned on having him in the film when they spoke with reporters in late 2013. With the film hitting theaters in a two weeks or so in the U.K., it's hard to picture any last-minute filming to fit him in, and fans questioned whether this might be the first Marvel Studios film without a cameo by the longtime face of the company. Lee has appeared in every Marvel Studios movie to date, as well as a number of Marvel-branded films produced and distributed by Fox and Sony. Films in which he appears include X-Men, Spider-Man, Daredevil, Hulk, Fantastic Four, X-Men: The Last Stand, Spider-Man 3, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America: The First Avenger, Marvel's The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man, Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World. He recently made a cameo appearance on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..

The longtime writer and editor will not make an appearance in this year's James Gunn-directed Guardians of the Galaxy, which he explained as being because he did not create the characters. "This is the one group that I didn't create," Lee said in an interview. "I didn't write Guardians of the Galaxy. I'm not even sure who they all are. I can't wait to see the movie." Of course, Lee also did not create Captain America--who first appeared in 1941, written by Joe Simon and featuring art by Jack Kirby, Lee's longtime collaborator. Many fans -- and even Lee himself, once -- have erroneously credited Lee with having created the character, since it was Lee who wrote Cap back into the Marvel Universe in The Avengers #4. In fairness to Lee, he did write the character as early as his series' third issue, in a filler text story Captain America Foils the Traitor's Revenge. That tale is credited with introducing the character's use of his shield as a throwing weapon--something we've seen in trailers for Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
