Warner Bros. Television is reportedly shopping around a Supergirl TV series, according to E! Online.

The report says that former Supergirl writer Michael Green is producing the series, which will not air on The CW. It was apparently shopped there first but for whatever reason it didn't seem like a fit. Green has served as a producer on Smallville and Heroes and has been attached to numerous DC projects including Gotham.

He kicked off the New 52 as co-writer of the series (with Mike Johnson) to mostly solid reviews.

That probably suggests that the show will exist either in its own, stand-alone universe or perhaps in the world of Man of Steel, whose prequel comic book dealt with the appearance of Kara Zor-El on Earth thousands of years ago.

With The CW's Amazon stalled and no officially-announced movies with female superheroes headlining, there has been some noise from and critics hopin to see better representation of women in the genre. Wonder Woman will appear in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and at least Scarlet Witch (and reportedly more) will join the cast of Avengers: Age of Ultron but a female-led superhero property would be a first for this new generation of blockbuster comics adaptations. The closest we're getting in iZombie on The CW or Marvel's Agent Carter on ABC. Jessica Jones will be one of the Defenders-branded Netflix shows for Marvel Studios, but it's not yet clear when that series will air.

Superman and Superboy have both been the subject of their own TV series before, but Supergirl has only ever appeared as a featured player in other shows on TV, including Justice League Unlimited and Smallville. She was the subject of a poorly-received feature film in the '80s, designed as a spinoff of the Christopher Reeve Superman franchise.
