While Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles took the #1 spot at the U.S. box office for two weeks when it was released last month, it didn't generate the kind of massive opening that Guardians of the Galaxy did the week before.
In part, Paramount Pictures would like to think that's because Guardians, fresh off a record-shattering opening weekend, was still hogging up most of the IMAX theaters, cutting off a potential source of premium ticket prices and additional screens for Ninja Turtles.
They hope to remedy that, and pad the film's already-impressive box office numbers, by releasing the film in IMAX for one week starting September 12.
The limited engagement will kick off with advance screenings on Thursday, September 11th at 7:00 p.m. local times nationwide. The first 300 ticketholders at each of these advance screenings will receive one of three special Legends of the Yokai Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Collector's Artist Posters, while supplies last.
