Following a bigger-than-expected $65 million opening weekend (with another $30 million or so coming from the international market), Paramount Pictures have announced that Michael Bay will produce a second Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie for release on June 3, 2016.

Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec, who wrote the most recent film, will return for the next installment, receiving Executive Producers credits for their trouble.

Of course, this film experienced significant delays during production, so it wouldn't be surprising to see the sequel get a Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice-style delay somewhere along the line...but for now, June 3, 2016.

At present, the movie will open opposite the Seth Rogen comedy Sausage Party and a week before the Uncharted movie. The week before, Fox will bow X-Men: Apocalypse and Disney will release Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass.
