The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Viral Site Confirms Minor Character Death

By the end of The Amazing Spider-Man, it seemed likely, but had never been firmly established, that Oscorp executive Dr. Rajit Ratha had died. A deleted scene included on the film's Blu-ray confirmed that, yes, the original plan was to show him killed by The Lizard on-camera, and a viral video report published earlier this month referred to The Lizard's alter ego, Dr. Kurt Connors, being charged with Ratha's death. Apparently, though, it took the coroner some time to formally identify the body, because minor Spider-Man supporting character Dilbert Trilby just reported on the viral Daily Bugle Tumblr (via CBM) that the body has been identified: The New York City Coroner's Office yesterday positively identified a badly decomposed body found in the sewers beneath lower Manhattan as that of Dr. Rajit Ratha, 46, formerly of Oscorp Industries.  A resident of New York City, Ratha was born on March 13, 1967 in Jaipur, India. Ratha was the Director of Business Development in the Biogenetic Division of Oscorp in Manhattan. Ratha's death was one of a number of scenes shown in trailers for the film that never made it into the final cut after filmmaker Marc Webb signed on for a second movie and restructured the overarching storyline dealing with the disappearance of Spider-Man's parent. Because Ratha wasn't key to that arc, though, some fans wondered whether the decision not to kill him on camera has more to do with keeping around a player from the first film with ties to Oscorp, since Harry and Norman Osborn are to be introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
