The Dark Knight Rises $900 Million

The Dark Knight Rises has passed another milestone. Christopher Nolan's final installment of the Batman trilogy has made more than $900 million at the worldwide box office. The surprising footnote to this total is that over half of the box office gross is from outside the United States. The Dark Knight rises is the first Batman movie where it will make more money in other countries than it makes in the United States. The Dark Knight Rises is currently in second place for 2012 both at the U.S. and the Worldwide box office with only The Avengers ahead of it. The Dark Knight Rises is currently the 22nd highest grossing movie of all time at the box office. Given that The Dark Knight Rises has led the overseas box office for five weekends straight and still has more major markets to open in, it is expected that the film should have no problem breaking the $1 billion mark. Box Office Mojo currently lists the total worldwide box office for The Dark Knight Rises at $901.3 million. However, while this number includes the U.S. box office totals through Tuesday, it appears to only include the international totals through Sunday. The true worldwide gross for The Dark Knight Rises is likely a couple million higher. Because the international numbers run behind, The Dark Knight Rises likely passed the $900 million mark on Monday, even though it didn't show on Box Office Mojo as passing this number until Tuesday box office numbers for the U.S. came in today.
