2014's The LEGO Movie was written and directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, but for the sequel the talented filmmaking duo is only responsible for the script. On Tuesday, Miller informed his followers that he and Lord have finished the first draft.
"Just turned in the official first draft of LEGO Movie 2," Miller tweeted. "Hello, Thanksgiving."
Lord and Miller handed over director's chair to Rob Schrab (TV’s “Community,” “The Mindy Project”), who will be making his feature film directorial debut. The script is based on a story by Lord, Miller, Jared Stern and Michelle Morgan.

The original 3D computer animated story follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.
The LEGO Movie 2 will be released on May 18, 2018.
