The Simpsons co-creator Sam Simon, suffering from a fatal case of colon cancer, is giving away his fortune to charities that provide for animals and the less fortunate.

He noted that he's used his cancer to call attention to animal charities like PETA and the Canadian Sealers Association, and charities founded by Simon himself that give to people in need.

"A lot of it's selfish," he said. "I get to see these animals that have spent their whole lives in concrete bunkers take their first steps on grass [and] I get to fly my friends out there."

He also discussed the Sam Simon Foundation - Feeding Families and  the Simon Society, a partnership with Save the Children.

You can check out the interview below.

"Cancer is a terrible disease. I'm struggling with it. It's everything everybody tells you about: it's a journey, it's a fight, it's tough. But if you want publicity and you want to pick up girls, cancer is the greatest thing in the world," Simon said.
