The Walking Dead Daryl & Beth

In a new interview, The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman had some bad news for Daryl Dixon/Beth Greene shippers: it's probably not going to happen. Kirkman, who tends to shoot fairly straight in interviews and favor simply hiding the truth to actively misdirecting fans an interviewers, said that his hopes for the pair to have a romantic relationship are slim -- not just because of the age difference and because Carol remains out there in the world (at least for now), but because they've been separated and, as far as we've seen so far, Daryl hasn't made it his top priority to find her just yet. (Cue "SOPHIA!" shouts in all of your imaginations.) "They're growing close, just as anyone who is stuck in that situation would grow close," Kirkman told Entertainment Weekly. "Now whether or not that is going to evolve into a romantic relationship remains to be seen. They've already been separated, so my hopes for that to happen are pretty low. There's a pretty slim chance of that relationship coming together and it continues the narrative of poor old Daryl is unlucky in love. But they're definitely clinging to each other for survival and growing a bond that forms when you're in that kind of that situation." Of course, the odds are slim that the back of that car will be the last we ever seen of Beth. Who will find her, though, and what it means for Daryl, is another question. It seems likely that Carol's fate -- whether she lives through tonight's episode or not -- will be clear to the group soon enough, as one way or another Carl and Rick have to be reunited with Judith or, from a narrative point of view, having her survive the prison was pointless.
