While no official word has yet come out of AMC, it appears as though The Walking Dead is set to be renewed for a fourth season. In the fine print of the American Red Cross blood drive event that AMC's The Walking Dead is sponsoring, there's a note that the prizewinner will be brought to the set of The Walking Dead in Atlanta as promised--but JoBlo noticed that it promises a visit to the set during the filming of a season four episode. The contest rules state, "AMC and The Walking Dead are joining forces with the American Red Cross for a nationwide blood drive that, aside from being a great way from showing your humanity, also might win you a 3-day, 2-night trip to the Season 4 production of The Walking Dead in 2013." As the series has not yet been renewed for a fourth season, this has surprised a lot of people. And lets anyone think it possible that this is a typo (the second half of the third season will be filming soon, and is currently on hiatus), the 2013 should really seal the deal. Expect an announcement soon--perhaps at New York Comic Con--and maybe for more than one season. Given the astronomical ratings the show has garnered for the network, everyone has been expecting a renewal for some time now. The show's third season begins on October 14 on AMC.
