The Walking Dead: Zombies Bite Blood Filled Condoms, No Joke!

One of the great things about The Walking Dead is the incredible makeup and visual effects. In both 2011 and 2012, The Walking Dead won Emmy Awards for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup For A Series, Miniseries, Movie Or A Special. The Walking Dead was also nominated for and Emmy in Outstanding Special Visual Effects in both 2011 and 2012. So how does the Walking Dead team produce those gross effects of rotting flesh and squirting blood? Well, some of the secrets were recently revealed in a behind the scenes look at The Walking Dead, and if you thought you were grossed out before, then wait until you hear what is actually happening when you see the blood squirt out of the zombie victims. According to special effects makeup artist Kevin Wasner, The Walking Dead uses condoms filled with fake blood for part of their effects. When a zombie appears to be biting into a person, the zombie is actually biting into a condom filled with fake blood, which then breaks and gushes out blood immediately.
