The Governor

The Walking Dead alumnus David Morrissey is heading to CBS' sci-fi series, Extant, in a new recurring role.

Morrissey, who played The Governor on the AMC series, will play another authoritative figure: General Tobias Shepherd. In the series, Shepherd leads an agency called the Global Security Commission. Known for his moral ambiguity and decisiveness, Shepherd shares a secret history with series star Molly Woods (Halle Berry). That prior relationship, apparently, will complicate Shepherd's ability to save humanity against deadly new threats.

Morrissey will join Extant's other new face, The Magic City alum's Jeffrey Dean Morgan, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Extant follows the story of Molly Woods, an astronaut who returns to Earth after spending thirteen months alone in space. But once Woods returns, she suddenly finds herself pregnant despite years of infertility, triggering a series of questions and events that could change the future of mankind.

Extant will return to CBS later this year at an unspecified date.
