Straight Up Films has acquired the film right's to Square Enix's Thief videogame franchise.

The film will be produced by Marisa Polvino and Kate Cohen of Straight Up Films, with Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment and Adrian Askarieh of Prime Universe. Adam Mason and Simon Boyes (Misconduct, Not Safe for Work) are taking the first crack at a screenplay.

Thief takes place in "the City," a metropolis set within a world that is a blend of steampunk and dark fantasy. The series follows Garrett, a master thief, as he navigates the conflicts between the powerful factions vying for power.

Thief was developed by Eidos Montreal. The original game, Thief: The Dark Project, released in 1998. It has spawned three sequels – Thief: The Metal Age (2000), Thief: Deadly Shadows (2004), and Thief (2014).
