"Sometimes too much of a good thing is a really, really good thing." Toonami, your fans could not have said it better themselves. Next year, the late-night animated block is preparing to revisit its glory days. The program is set to premiere a slew of highly anticipated series for U.S. fans, and Toonami is celebrating its comeback with one impressive trailer.
UP NEXT: Dragon Ball Super Toonami Premiere Date Announced
"The first new Dragon Ball show in almost 20 years" will be coming to Toonami after the new year rings in. Dragon Ball Super debuted in Japan last year to rave reviews, and Funimation will be bringing an English dubbed version of the anime to fans worldwide. So far, the show has racked up more than 70 episodes, so fans can expect Dragon Ball Super to be on-air for the foreseeable future. After all, Toonami was the network that popularized Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z back when the shows were in production; It's only right that fans return to Toonami for the brand-new series.
After Dragon Ball Super airs, fans will be given a double-dose of Dragon Ball goodness. The new series will be followed by episodes from Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters. Fans have been waiting for the English dubbed episodes of the "Majin Buu" saga to debut, and Toonami is finally making that happen.
For you mecha anime fans, don't feel left out. Toonami has not forgotten about you guys! In fact, the program will be kicking off the new year by premiering the English dub of Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn.
When Dragon Ball Super finally on Toonami next month, it will do so from the first episode. It may take awhile for Toonami to catch up with Dragon Ball Super's 70+ episodes, but it will definitely be worth the wait. In February, a brand-new story arc is set to kick off with the 'Universal Survival' saga. You can check out the brief synopsis for it below:
"At Goku's request, the Omni-Kings' "Tournament of Power" martial arts tournament between universes now begins! …But this also proves to be the beginning of universal destruction. What awaits the victors of this tournament, and the vanquished…?! How will these intense team battles between the elites of each universe turn out…?!"
Shortly after the arc was announced, producer Shunki Hashizume had this to say about the impending saga. "Dragon Ball Super enters its new chapter, the "Universe Survival Arc". As you can see from the main visual, it'll be a full-throttle story where Goku and the rest of the Universe 7 warriors form a team to take on a tournament between universes!" he wrote.
"Artificial Human No. 17 and Majin Boo are there too, so personally I can't contain my excitement at the thought of what kind of fights we'll see! Look forward to this new chapter that'll be sure to feature super-intense battles with nonstop appearances by the elites of each universe!"
