JJ Abrams Star Wars Disney Announcement

We're living in an age of movie rumors and movie rumor denials. With many studios unwilling to speak on the record about their upcoming projects, the entertainment press is constantly following leads and rumors in hopes of breaking the next big scoop. Even the top names in the entertainment industry occasionally get it wrong, but other times they get it right, only to have their scoop denied by the studios or their representatives. We've compiled a list of five of the top five movie rumor denials of recent history. On some of them the outcome is known, and on others, it's still up in the air as to if they will eventually prove to be false denials. 5. Planet Hulk Movie – It was the Super Bowl of scoops. Quite literally, as the scoop was announced in grand style after the Super Bowl. Given Latino Review's track record with breaking Marvel Studios news, almost every news outlet on the planet quickly reported about Marvel Studios plans to release a Planet Hulk movie. Since that time, Ain't It Cool News, director Joss Whedon, and actor Mark Ruffalo have all denied the story. Whether the Planet Hulk movie rumor ultimately proves to be true or false, one thing is for certain is that it will forever be remembered as one of the grandest movie rumors of all time. 4. Iron Man In Guardians Of The Galaxy - It wouldn't be fair if we didn't include at least one of our reported movie rumors and subsequent denials on the list. When Comicbook.com heard that Iron Man was going to appear in Guardians of the Galaxy, director James Gunn in no uncertain terms denied the rumor. James Gunn wrote, "When fan sites have a slow news day, I guess they just make sh-- up. Honestly - almost all of the 'news' about my upcoming projects has been utterly and completely false. And I really mean 'all.'" Since that time, we've seen the emergence of Deep Space Suit armor, as well as several other websites also claiming their sources are telling them that Iron Man will tie into Guardians of the Galaxy. When Kevin Feige was asked about the Deep Space Suit armor, he said, "Well I would say that I've owned a number of 'Jungle Attack' Batman [toys] in my time and I don't remember any jungle attack batman sequences, so." While the verdict is still out on this one, we'll probably know for sure once the Iron Man 3 credits role. 3. Carrie Fisher Was Just Joking…Again – So Carrie Fisher was appearing at a book signing and some fan asked if she was going to return as Princess Leia in Star Wars Episode 7. Fisher replied, "Yes, I thought it was already common knowledge." Apparently not, because her publicist had to then explain that Fisher was just joking, even though we're not sure where the humor was in the reply. When Palm Beach Illustrated asked Carrie Fisher if she was reprising her role as Princess Leia, the website printed her one word reply as "Yes." Once again, Carrie Fisher's publicist explained that when Carrie Fisher says "Yes" that she's just making a joke. With recent news that George Lucas appears to have spilled the beans that a deal is already done and Disney is just waiting to make a big deal of the announcement, it's starting to look like Carrie Fisher wasn't joking after all. 2. The Internet Made Me Put Mark Wahlberg In Transformers 4 – When rumors surfaced that Michael Bay was casting Mark Wahlberg in Transformers 4, Michael Bay quickly took to the Internet to deny the rumors. Michael Bay wrote, "The Mark Wahlberg T4 rumor is just a rumor. Mark and I are talking about another film project." However, later when Michael Bay announced that Mark Wahlberg would indeed be in Transformers 4, he said that it was only because the Internet gave him the idea to do it. 1. J.J. Abrams Not Directing Star Wars Episode 7 – In the great book of movie rumor denials, it will be hard to ever top this one. "And remember J.J. Abrams wasn't going to direct Star Wars either" has already become the universal rallying cry for any reporter who has one of their movie rumor stories denied. In no uncertain terms in an interview with Empire Magazine, J.J. Abrams said, "There were the very early conversations and I quickly said that because of my loyalty to Star Trek, and also just being a fan, I wouldn't even want to be involved in the next version of those things." Of course, we all now know how that particular movie rumor denial turned out.
