Transformers: Age of Extinction

During Super Bowl XLVIII, fans got there first real look at Transformers: Age of Extinction, the upcoming fourth film (and soft reboot of sorts) in the Transformers film franchise. There were some very cool moments that managed to get some of even the most jaded fans excited, and we're highlighting them all right here. That Is a Big Robot - One thing a trailer needs to do in order to be successful is really grab an audience's attention early to get them interested in what's going on. Kicking things off with a robot that's larger than the screen slowly and menacingly floating by is certainly one way to achieve that goal. Putting an average Transformer, considered pretty large by most standards, in front of the behemoth did a great job of driving home the sense of scale.

Transformers: Age of Extinction ShockwaveShockwave Is Back -

You can have Megatron, Galvatron, Starscream and the rest. For my money, Shockwave was always the baddest Decepticon in the bunch.  He's like an evil, robot Spock, so full of cruel, logical malice that there's no room for anything else. Also, he has a gun for a face. Sure, the studio hasn't officially confirmed that this is a redesigned Shockwave, but after hearing that gunshot sound effect I think there's little doubt.

Transformers: Age of ExtinctionThis Green Guy Is a Badass -

I don't know who this particular Transformer is, but he's parachuting through the air, dual-wielding machine guns and blasting everything in sight out of the sky. That's quite an introduction. Judging by the his coloring, I'd guess that he's the Autobot that Transforms into the green Corvette Stingray, but that's about all we have to go on right now.

Transformers: Age of Extinction StrafeThe Dinobots Arrive -

One of the most exciting additions to the film franchise coming in Age of Extinction is the Dinobots. These Autobots who transform in Dinosaurs are, in the cartoon at least, comically unintelligent to the point that the Autobots have to deactivate them to stop them from causing more problems than they solve. One of the most memorable lines from the cartoon has to be Grimlock responding to an insult in his trademark speech pattern "Me Grimlock no bozo. Me king!" Also, giant robot dinosaur battles. Those can be fun too.

So this one has certainly been making the round on the Internet already, but there's really no denying that it is the single most exciting image from the entire trailer: Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots, wielding a sword while riding on the back of Grimlock, robot Tyrannosaurus Rex and king of the Dinobots. This is the stuff that children's dreams are made of. Transformers: Age of Extinction comes to theaters June 27, 2014.
