Transformers: Age Of Extinction Is First Summer Film To Lead U.S. Box Office For Two Weekends In A Row

It's been a very competitive summer at the box office. Since the 2014 summer box office season kicked off at the beginning of May, no one film has led the U.S. weekend box office for more than one weekend. That is until now.

Transformers: Age of Extinction has just become the first summer 2014 movie to repeat at the U.S. weekend box office in the #1 position. Over the Fourth of July weekend, Transformers: Age of Extinction brought in $36 million, which was good enough to take the #1 spot in the face of relatively weak competition. Tammy debuted in the #2 spot with $21 million, and Deliver Us From Evil finished third with $9.5 million.

During its 10 days of release, Transformers: Age of Extinction has racked up $174.7 million at the U.S. box office, and it is currently the seventh highest grossing movie of the year at the U.S. box office. The last film in 2014 to repeat at the U.S. weekend box office before Transformers: Age of Extinction was Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which was released the first weekend in April. Captain America: The Winter Soldier led the U.S. box office for three weekends in a row.
