Twin Peaks: THE SECRET DIARY OF LAURA PALMER by Jennifer Lynch

Jennifer Lynch, the daughter of Twin Peaks co-creator David Lynch and the author of The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer, has thrown her support behind an Internet campaign to recruit actress Sheryl Lee to read for an audio adaptation of the more than 20-year-old book. On her Facebook page, the author wrote, "I'd love to read with Sheryl Lee....I could be BOB." BOB, for the uninitiated, is the name of an evil spirit seen periodically during the series and...well, if you don't know, much more than that is just spoilers. "Mark Frost loved the idea and at least 161 of you liked it as well. I'm talking about an audiobook version of Jennifer Lynch's The Secret Diary Of Laura Palmer narrated by the one and only Sheryl Lee," wrote the webmaster at the popular fan site Welcome to Twin Peaks. "But it's been well over a year since the idea was brought up, and so far nothing has happened. That could change, because Amazon is accepting audiobook requests and if it receives enough of those for a particular title, its Audible.com subsidiary will look into producing the edition together with the author and rights holder(s)." Obviously, the book's author being engaged and willing goes a long way toward giving Audible a fighting chance. The novel, based on a plot device from the cult-hit TV series, presents the story of Laura Palmer in the years leading up to her murder--told in the first person from the perspective of a very damaged girl who knows she's headed for a bad fall. Some of the entries are inspired by snippets read aloud in the show, but most of the book is original material that fills in some information about the character, whose murder in the series pilot was the premise for the show. You can check out a video of Lee reading a short excerpt of the book below.
