Wonder Woman Earth One

Over at Zap 2 It, they've got a first look at the forthcoming hardcover graphic novel Wonder Woman Earth One by Grant Morrison and...wait for it...Yanick Paquette. This is the first we've heard the artist's name officially dropped, although the article is really more about showing off the first image from the series than about naming Paquette. You can see that at right, and here's what the piece had to say about it:

The book features both Diana Prince/Wonder Woman and her mother, Queen Hippolyta, and is part of the "Earth One" graphic novel series. Morrison is writing the comic, while Yanick Paquette is drawing. As "Earth One" titles are released in graphic novel form, rather than s single issues, the new Wonder Woman title clocks in at 120 pages, according to Morrison. In the artwork shown for Wonder Woman: Earth One, Queen Hippolyta kills Hercules, the son of Zeus.

Whether Wonder Woman is the illegitimate, unacknowledged daughter of Zeus in the story or not is not clear--that's part of her origin in the New 52--but it's probably unlikely, given that the Earth One novels give creators broad leeway to do what they see as a fresh, powerful take on the characters and it's difficult to imagine Morrison giving up a chance to craft his own mythology, given his history. With the end of runs on both Batman Incorporated and Action Comics, Morrison said recently that he's stepping away from mainstream superhero comics for a while--but not until he's completed both the Wonder Woman original graphic novel and the upcoming Multiversity event.
