Apocalypse's Mission
Apocalypse lives by the code "survival of the fittest" in the comics, and it's a version of that mentality that drives him in the film. Culling an entire planet is too big a job for just one person, even the 5000 year old mutant, so Apocalypse recruits his Four Horsemen. Storm is found as a troubled teenager on the street of Cairo. Psylocke is working in Eastern Europe for Caliban. Angel is taking part in a Berlin fight club. Magneto was living in Poland, happily in love with a woman, but Apocalypse finds him at a low point and brings him into the fold.

X-Men: The Next Generation
X-Men: Apocalypse is going to be a pivot point for the film franchise, completing the stories begun in X-Men: First Class that continued in X-Men: Days of Future Past and shifting narrative focus onto the young versions of Cyclops, Storm, and Jean Grey. Cyclops and Jean are both students at Xavier's School, along with Jubilee. As mentioned, Storm is a teenager living in Cairo who is recruited as a Horseman of Apocalypse. Nightcrawler also returns to the franchise as one of the mutants rescued by Mystique.
