In spite of James McAvoy's comments to the contrary yesterday, ComingSoon.net is reporting that veteran actor Alan Cumming will not return for X-Men: Days of Future Past. The star, who played Nightcrawler in the film, had expressed interest (or at least willingness) to join the rest of the X-Men and X-Men: First Class casts in the upcoming film, which is a bit of a sequel to both franchises, but said that nobody had yet called and he didn't expect them two. Then, earlier this week, an interview went live in which McAvoy (who plays one version of Professor Charles Xavier in the movie) referred to Cumming as being one of the cast members returning from the old films. Director Bryan Singer, who has broken most of the film's casting news via his Twitter account, hasn't addressed Cumming directly, saying only that he wasn't sure whether Nightcrawler would find his way into the final draft of the script. The ComingSoon.net story doesn't quote any sources directly, but seem quite confident in their story; given the absence of details from Singer, it's entirely possible that a final decision hasn't yet been made, but at this point the most likely scenario seems to be that McAvoy simply misremembered his cast list. After all, he didn't know whether Peter Dinklage, who has been confirmed by Singer, was still a rumor or not.
