X-Men's Shawn Ashmore: "I Don't think Dead Is Dead"

"Dead" rarely means dead when it comes to comics. While there are a few exceptions to this rule, like Uncle Ben, comic fans know if there is a will, there is a way. We've seen characters like  Bucky Barnes come back to great fanfare, Jean Grey (a few times), Batman, and so many more that it had us wondering, what about in the movies? Does the same rule apply?

During an interview with Shawn Ashmore (X-Men: Days Of Future Past), we asked the actor what his thoughts were on super hero deaths. We also asked if that might mean there's a backdoor for his character, Iceman, whose fate seemed bleak during X-Men: Days Of Future Past. While it's pretty much a given that throughout the movie, those defending Wolverine bit the dust. But through some comic book magic, we saw everyone we've come to know and love back and breathing.

You're a comics fan, you know dead never really means dead

Shawn A.: This is true.

Do you think that may or may not have the same effect when it comes to the movies? We've seen the concept of time travel and alternate timelines play out in X-Men movies, and given what we know about the Age Of Apocalypse comic series, does this mean we might see the ice slide one more time?

Shawn A.: Yeah, I don't think dead is dead. Days of Future Past is a perfect example of the timeline resetting itself, and I think such a satisfying moment for X-Men fans was to see Scott, Jean, Rogue and everybody in those last moments. Spoiler alert, if you haven't seen Days of Future Past yet.

At the end I thought it was nice to have that closure, or at least see those characters that everybody loved together back at the school. To be honest, the first time I watched the cut of the film, I got a little a little misty eyed. I knew it was coming, I knew what it was going to be, but it was such a nice moment. I guess dead really is never dead because that sort of suggests that, in another timeline, in another time strand, these characters all still exist and are still the team that we know from the books. I think that's cool.
