In March 2012, it was reported that Universal Pictures and Montecito Picture Co. were developing a follow-up to the 1988 hit comedy Twins. They also announced that the sequel is titled Triplets, will reunite Arnold Schwarzenegger (Predator) and Danny DeVito (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia), and feature Eddie Murphy (Meet Dave) as Julius and Vincent Benedict's fraternal triplet, and Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters), the director/producer of the original, signed on to produce Triplets.

In November 2012, the studios hired Josh Gad (Frozen) and Ryan Dixon to pen a script. Three years later, during a Reddit AMA, Gad revealed that the script is complete and has been described as "great" by everyoen that has read it. "I think it's on hold right now," he added. "But everybody read the script and loved it, so I hope it sees the light of day at some point. It's there and in great shape."

Gad and Dixon's script finds Julius and Vincent "at a major crossroads where they've sort of grown apart over the years and what winds up bringing them together is a 3rd brother they never knew they had who could potentially be played by Eddie Murphy…"

Recently, Reitman chatted with Mr. Wavvy and was asked about the status of Triplets. He confirmed that Murphy is still involved, but also mentioned that they are still "trying to get a script." Apparently, Gad and Dixon's script was as "great" as they were told.

Twins (1998) - Superstars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito team up for twice the laughs in this hilarious box-office blockbuster from director Ivan Reitman. An ambitious genetic experiment takes the wrong turn when two twins - who look nothing alike - are born and then separated. Years later, the unlikely siblings meet: Julius, a highly educated but sheltered giant with a big heart, and Vincent, a pint-sized hustler with an insatiable lust for women and money. With girlfriends in tow and a hitman on their tail, the newfound brothers set off on a wild, cross-country misadventure to find their mother - but end up finding out more about themselves.

The film starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito, Kelly Preston, Chloe Webb, Bonnie Bartlett, Trey Wilson, and Marshall Bell.

Twins was directed and produced by Ivan Reitman, based on a script by William Davies, William Osborne, Timothy Harris, and Herschel Weingrod.
