Split has won a second consecutive Friday at the box office. The M. Night Shyamalan thriller earned $8 million on Friday and is projected to earn between $25 and $26 million over the entire weekend.
Newcomer A Dog's Purpose will follow behind in second place. A Dog's Purpose earned $5.3 million on Friday. Following controversy and boycotting over the treatment of animals on the film's set, projections for A Dog's Purpose's opening weekend have dropped from $25 million to $19 million.
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter debuts in third place, behind Oscar-contender Hidden Figures. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter earned $5 million on Friday and is projected for between $12 and $13 million over the weekend.
Vin Diesel's xXx: The Return of Xander Cage landed in sixth place in its second weekend, bringing in $2.1 million on Friday.
