The Fate of the Furious is the biggest movie of the year (so far), proving that the franchise hasn't run out of steam after the death of Paul Walker. FotF has actually opened wide doors for the franchise to expand; first, we know that there will be two more sequels (Fast and the Furious 9 & 10), which will end the main run of the franchise - but there's also a planned spinoff film for Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs, and Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw.
Now that the Hobbs/Shaw spinoff film has been confirmed, Fast and the Furious fans are buzzing with excitement. Well, whenever there is buzz surrounding the Fast and the Furious franchise, the stars of the franchise are none too proud to stoke those fires. Case in point: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is already using his extensive social media reach to generate even more hype.
Johnson posted on Instagram, with a message thanking fans for the success of Fate of the Furious - in it, he also dropped a message for Jason Staham's Deckard Shaw, in the usual manner of a professional wrestler, working the crowd before a big match:
"...And finally, a very very special shout out to a certain bald headed, English tea drinkin', crumpets eatin', God Save The Queen singin' suuuuuum bitch, Jason Statham. One fine day, we will give the audience what they want and fight. And it will be the greatest fight in the history of movies. We will then drink like brothers as you nurse your wounds, because I'm gonna knock your teeth so far down your throat, you're gonna have to stick a toothbrush up your ass to brush 'em. Thanks for trusting me brotha and cheers to always having fun for [the] audience."
The Hobbs/Shaw rivalry has been an unexpected (but very welcome) standout of both Furious 7 and Fate of the Furious - which makes the prospect of this spinoff film even more exciting. After FotF, it's clear that the franchise can in fact succeed after deviating from the main storyline and characters - so there's no reason to expect the spinoff would be anything but a success, as well - especially with two of the biggest action stars in the world involved.
