Now that we know the Rock will be playing Black Adam in a Shazam movie, everyone is wondering who Warner Bros. will sign to play Shazam himself. No one knows for now, but here are five suggestions for actors who could fill Shazam's tights.
We've brought up John Cena's name as a potential Shazam candidate before, largely based on the fact that his wrestling gimmick is so close to "The Big Red Cheese" as it is. On top of that, you've got a guy who is already in superhero shape and who we know can go toe-to-toe and match the presence of The Rock.
Warburton seems to be a fan favorite for the role, largely based on his tenure as the similarly cheesy superhero character The Tick. Warbuton is equally known for his voice work as much as his live action career. A superhero movie may be the most physical performance he's ever given. He can certainly pull off silly superhero, it's a matter of whether or not he could pull off Shazam's innocence. This is the guy who voices Brock Samson, after all.
Nathan Fillion has been a fan favorite actor since he played Malcolm Reynolds in Firefly. It's his turn as Captain Hammer in Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog that convinces us he could do justice to Shazam though. Shazam is basically Captain Hammer without the d**k jokes.
Daniel Cudmore is the actor who plays Colossus in the X-Men films. He doesn't get a whole lot of chances to show off his acting skills in those films, since Colossus has never been one of their central characters, but he looks the part and he has the build. Let's see what he can do.
In what would certainly be the most gimmicky option, The Rock could play both Black Adam and Shazam. We've mentioned this idea before, with the basic theory being that The Rock is the only person capable of matching The Rock, and that Shazam and Black Adam's shared power source could account for their similar looks.
