One character at the front of our minds is Daryl Dixon. Last week, our favorite crossbow wielding zombie hunter was shot by Dwight with his blood spattering all over our TV screens. We weren't ready for it.
Chances are though, he's still alive - for now. Dwight said to Daryl behind a black screen, "You'll be alright," but proved that the Saviors mean business.
Even though Daryl likely survived the gunshot, will he survive the season finale? It's anybody's guess at this point but I'm going to dub him as being in serious danger. When Negan brings down his bat, Daryl is a totally viable option for who will be on the receiving end of a vicious home run swing.
What makes Daryl a candidate? His willingness to sacrifice himself for the others.
There's no denying that Daryl has become attached to everyone at Alexandria but right now, he's the lone wolf of the group.
If Negan were to select Carl, Rick would step in and there would be multiple casualties.
If Negan were to select Maggie, Glenn would step in and there would be multiple casualties.
If Negan were to select Sasha, Abraham would step in and there would be multiple casualties.
Each of the previous three sentences can have the Alexandrian names swapped within themselves and mostly retain their truthfulness. The one character who wouldn't particularly have someone jump out to save him, likely because he would wave them off anyway, is Daryl.
The safe bet here has to be Daryl or Glenn. Killing Sasha, Eugene, Aaron, or a character who hasn't been a central part of the team for the long run so far wouldn't have the same effect and would truly undermine the moment.
So, will Daryl die? We won't know until tonight. But is he safe? Hell no.
The Walking Dead season six finale airs tonight at 9 PM ET on AMC.
