Later this year, Lucasfilm will see the next piece of its new Star Wars trilogy fall into place. Star Wars: Episode VIII will hit theaters in December 2017, and production on the film has already ended. Still, there are plenty of secrets surrounding the much-anticipated film, and fans are curious about more than just its name. When it comes to casting, rumors have been flying left and right that Tom Hardy nabbed a role in the movie, but he's played coy about the possibility.

Apparently, he is determined to remain that way. The actor recently sat down for an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, and Hardy hedged when the site questioned him about the intergalactic rumors.
When the site asked if he could confirm the Star Wars rumor, Hardy first had this to say: "I don't know if I can even say that. Where did you hear that?" After THR explained that the Internet was buzzing with rumors, Hardy joked about how reliable the medium is.
"Ah, the internet is a glorious web of deceit and misinformation, isn't it?" he joked.
However, when Hardy was then asked to clarify the rumors as misinformation, he didn't take the bait. The actor instead answered, saying, "It could be, couldn't it?"
If you are not familiar about Hardy and his possible inclusion in Episode VIII, then you should know sources have suggested the actor is playing a stormtropper in the film. According to MakingStarWars, the site had heard Hardy would be a member of the First Order and have a pivotal moment in the film. It was also rumored that Hardy's character would share some sort of relationship with Finn as the two trained in their youth.
For now, the rumor cannot be confirmed or denied without word from either Hardy or Lucasfilm. Fans can only speculate about the possibility, but it seems plenty of moviegoers would be pleased with the sly cameo should it come to fruition.
Star Wars: Episode VIII is written and directed by Rian Johnson, continuing the saga films. Star Wars expands their universe with Rogue One, the first of their new standalone movies that take place without a focus on anyone named Skywalker.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits US theaters December 16, 2016. Directed by Gareth Edwards, it's the first of the new standalone features from Lucasfilm and Disney, which take place outside the core "Skywalker Saga" of films noted by an Episode number. Rogue Onetells the story of the small band of rebels that were tasked with stealing the plans to the first Death Star. The story spins directly off the opening crawl from the original Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. In that crawl, it read: "Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet."
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is in theaters today.
